A person authorized to perform certain legal formalities, especially to draw up or certify contracts, deeds, and other documents for use in other jurisdictions is known as a Notary Public. A Notary Public is an officer of the Supreme Court of Nigeria who performs invaluable services for the legal, business, financial, and real estate communities.

A Notary Public in Nigeria is a person of integrity appointed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, to serve the public as an unbiased witness on legal documents and affirmations. They are senior members of the Nigerian Bar Association who have been called to the Bar for at least seven years before they are appointed as a Notary Public. The primary function of a notary is the preparation of documents and authentication of clients’ identities and signatures principally for use locally or abroad.
